The TWITTER Stitch

We the girls, till the sixties and seventies, grew up learning and mastering embroidery. It was actually the need of the hour, I guess.

During those times, it was indeed the best hobby to nurture.
It gave vent to creativity.
It greatly helped young girls to complete their Home Science and other subject projects and in many a case it became a requirement for good marriage alliances and for a matter of pride trousseau thereafter
(Thankfully was saved from this at least)..
Many a long time friendships blossomed under the pretext  of sharing and learning during these embroidery sessions.
These sessions became the source of happy get togethers specifically for housewives, when with all their household chores taken care of and with plenty of leisure time available till evening, when their spouses would be back home, this was indeed gratifying.
In an age of no social media, human media was the best media available then.
Many young girls during those times developed liking for embroidery mainly seeing their mother and grandmothers.

My story was no different. I grew up watching my mother who literally had this special skill of making ordinary into extraordinary through her embroidery skills. In no time I too picked it up well and my projects in school and college stood out.. And later on, my own home and my workplace too had a glimpse of it.

One such stich which always fascinated me and still does, is cross stitch. Criss crossing the innumerous grids with a myriad of colours and patterns, they make the dopamine go high in no time. Those who have experienced it, can well relate with it.

But gradually as life started taking turns, I kind of got busy doing the balancing acts and everything got left behind.
But the happy soul is back again with her criss cross musings.

Last Sunday, after getting two of my cross stitch wall arts framed ,was coming back home. A teenager met me in the lift. Curiosity got the better of her and she wanted to see those framed pictures.
Lovingly she admired them and quietly said... "Aunty, you are so good at Twitter Stitches".
Oh Lord!
